Borrowing and Returns

Borrowing

To borrow items you need to be a current library member with a valid Victoria Park Library card.

Members can borrow any combination of up to 20 items at once per library card for a loan period of three weeks, with the option to renew their materials if there are no reservations pending on an item.

Parents or guardians of members who are under 18 years of age are responsible for any items borrowed on the child’s card.

Library cards are required for borrowing materials at the self-check kiosks. Library cards can be saved through our Library’s Spydus mobile app, which can be downloaded to a member’s smartphone for convenience.

Returning

All Victoria Park Library items must be returned to this library. Items borrowed from other libraries will not be accepted.

Items can be returned either via the internal or external chutes. The external chute, located on the south side of the Library, is available 24/7 for your convenience.

Note: There will be some items that should not be returned via either chute due to size or format (such as board games or some puppets). These can only be returned to the Special Items bin located inside the Library next to the internal chute. If you borrow one of these items you will be alerted upon issue.

Renewing

Items will be automatically renewed the day before they are due back, under the following conditions:

  • If the item is not overdue,
  • If the item has not exceeded its maximum number of two renewals,
  • If there is no outstanding financial balance,
  • If the item has not been reserved by another borrower, or
  • If the item is not an Inter-library request (was transferred from another library).

This means you will only receive a Loan Reminder notice if the item cannot be renewed.

Alternatively items can be renewed online, over-the-phone or in person.

Reserving

Items can be reserved 24/7 via the Library’s online catalogue. Search for items by author, title, series, subject, format, collection, language and availability.

See link below to visit online catalogue.

Interlibrary loans

Note: there may be a delay in supplying items due to availability and the service delivering twice weekly.

Lost or stolen cards

Notify the library immediately if membership cards are lost or stolen. All items borrowed on a Library card are the legal responsibility of the card holder. Replacement cards can be created by staff.

Customers may also choose to use a digital version of their card instead. Library cards can be saved through our Library’s Spydus mobile app, which can be downloaded to a member’s smartphone for convenience.

Lost or damaged items

Patrons are legally responsible for borrowed items. Lost or damaged items incur a cost for replacement. Payment can be made at the library or over the phone.
