Jirdarup Bushland and the Friends who care for it
Past Event
Jirdarup Bushland is on the boundary of South Perth and Victoria Park and, despite development since 1901, it still has more plant species per unit area and greater ecological integrity than Banksia woodland in Kings Park and Bold Park.
This presentation will focus on a recently published book that encompasses both the history of the area and its natural beauty. The presentation will highlight key historic factors, wow you with great photos and also discuss some of the challenges for self-publishing by a not-for-profit group. The earliest photo from 1901 features the opening of the first South Perth Rifle Range in what is now Como.
The presenter, Lesley van Schoubroeck, is a local resident and former public servant and was both author and project manager. Production of the book was funded by the Town of Victoria Park.
Bookings are essential and can be made online, in person or over the phone.
