Beginning on 2 April 2024, First Nations’ artist, Sara Riches will begin painting a mural in the junior area of the library.

My name is Sara Riches, I am a proud Ngadju and Wongatha woman. I’m Ngadju on my mothers side, from Malpa land Norseman and Wongatha on my fathers side from Kalgoorlie. I’m married to Daniel a Bardi man and we have three beautiful children. I have been living and working on Whadjuk Country for over 10 years and have been specialising in Indigenous contemporary art, with a strong focus on textured art for over a year.

Since I was a child I’ve always had a strong passion to create art. I would sit down on country with my elders and family members, who were established artists, and soak up all the knowledge they would share with me from generations before. As a young child I would paint gumnuts and quongdong seeds to make necklaces. What I love most about art is that I share in a long line of storytelling. Through my art I share my culture, heritage and home.

The mural is set to be completed by 19 April.  If you would like to find out more about Sara Riches head to her website.
