Welcome to #TimeWarpTuesday and a peek into our Realia Collection.

The Realia Collection

‘Realia’ is a term used for three-dimensional objects within the Local History Collection. These are usually small items that were part of local people’s everyday life, they might also have been given as gifts or trophies for competitions.

Today we introduce you to a couple of treasures from the collection two leather satchels.

Mr J. Treacy's Satchel

A leather satchel given to Mr J. Treacy by other members of The United Ancient Order of Druids, in Victoria Park.

Inscription on satchel on metal plate reads: "U.A.O.D. Presented to P. A. Bro. J. Treacy by the Pride of Victoria Park Lodge No. 345. 1915."

"The United Ancient Order of Druids (UAOD) is a fraternal organisation founded in England, in 1833 after a scission with the Ancient Order of Druids. Its motto is United to assist." (Wikipedia)

Mr R T. Finlayson's Satchel

The inscription on the metal shield shaped plate of this satchel reads: "U.A.O.D. Presented to P.A. Bro. T. Finlayson by Pride of Victoria Park Lodge No. 345. 1940."

Both of these satchels were owned by Thomas Finlayson of 36 Temple Street, Victoria Park (house built 1927).

We don’t know a lot about Mr Treacy and Mr Finlayson at present, but if you can help us with information and/or photographs of the men, please let us know.
